Not far from the holy city of Haridwar is a Tapobhumi called Rishikesh. This sacred town is located in the foot hills of the Himalayas. From here the Ganges leaves the mountains and enters the plains. It is the location of Rishikesh which provides the eternal beauty and peace to the place. The town is surrounded by hills and numerous temples dot the place. Rishikesh provides plenty of oppurtunities for trekking and water rafting. Do not miss the Lakshman Jhula and Ram Juhla to get a unforgetable view of the place.
The city of Nawabs--Lucknow is very much related to the history of Avadh. It was during the rule of Asaf-ud-Daulla that the capital of Avadh was shifted from Faizabad to Lucknow. Thus, most of the monuments are related to the history the Nawabs. The Chota Immanbara and Bara Imambara, the mosque, the residency every thing was built on grand scale and style. The present capital of Uttar Pradesh is famous for the Mughalai delicacies which are served here and the chikan work which is very popular among one and all.
Shekhawati is famous for its painted mansions and beautiful frescoes. This place was founded by Rao Shekhaji. This place presents a colourful fantasy of its own. The paintings are blue, maroon,yellows,green and indigo & motifs were mainly traditional but with changing time every thing has changed. Except for the charm which this place had. Initially the region had a blank monochromatic look but with subsequent historical and social development it has blossomed into a colourful profusion of art and life for almost 2 centuries from 1750 A.D. to 1930 A.D.
A town from medieval era which has adopted to industrailise itself without divorcing its ancient charm. Its untouched wealth of impressive forts, opulent palaces and splendid temples dating back over several centuries retain the past glory. The present day edifices and heavy industries have made it the industrial heartland of Rajasthan. The commanding fort stands overlooking the modern Chambal Valley Project with its many dams- Kota Barrage,Gandhi Sagar,Rana Pratap Sagar and Jawahar Sagar. An old palace dating back to the time when Kota was under the control of Hada Chieftaincy-Hadoti, faces the Kota Barrage. Kota is not a very hot tourist destination but holds many secrets to be unfolded.
