The queen of hill stations-- Shimla has been an ever shining star on the tourist map. This place holds unimaginable beauty which had prompted the British to make it their summer capital. Everything here carries the mark of a bygone era, the wooden house, the fireplaces, the Church, the Mall, Scandal point, everything has a story to tell of its own. Every season in Shimla is conducive for tourists. But the Shimla after snow fall has a totally different picture to paint. From Shimla there are many small excursions and trekking which can be taken while you are there.
Along the river Beas is located Manali. Lush green forest and the rugged but apealing country side is an ideal place for many adventure sports. Apart from the hikking, trekking and skiing trails there are plenty of temples and other historical monuments which will keep you busy while you are visiting Manali. Rohtang pass is very close to Manali. This place is coming up as a major skiing resort. As Manali is not as crowded as Shimla, it provides a very good respite from the busy schedules of city life.
Lovely scenes, great mountains, gorgeous valleys, these are the few things which make Kullu. Not very far from Manali is the district headquarters of Kullu. Here one can enjoy all the pleasures of a hill station. However, the main attraction of Kullu is the Dusshera festival. During this festival the whole place is decorated like a bride. Every where there is merriment, songs, dance and festivites. The Kullu Dusshera starts from the day this festivals end all over India. There are many trekking and camping oppurtunites at this place.
Another serene and beautiful place in Himachal Pradesh is Dharamsala. This place is in the news as it is the seat of administration for the exiled Dalai Lama of Tibet. Apart from that, there are many interesting things to see here. Like the Jwalamukhi temple where people worship a flame.Dharamsala overlooks the plains and is surrounded by dense pine trees and Deodar forests. A nearby snowline with numerous streams and cool healthy atmosphere makes the surroundings very attractive. Dharamsala provides an excellent atmosphere to spend the holidays.
