One of the oldest living cities in the world, Varanasi is perhaps the most important and holy place for the Hindus. It is a unique city where past and present, eternity and continuity live side by side. Glorified by myth and legend and sanctified by religion, it has always attracted a large number of pilgrims and worshippers from times immemorial. Varanasi is an out of this world experience, an experience of self discovery, a journey in search of immortality. In Varanasi the most important shrine is the Viswanath Temple, the abode of Lord Shiva. Around this temple has evolved the spiritual identity of Varanasi and the inner city--Kashi.
Beyond the the mystic aura and mythology, Haridwar casts a magic spell on the visitor. It has been an ever refreshing mystic venue for the purification of the mind, body and soul. The holy Ganga which flows through this sacred city has actually been sanctified by the powerful trinity of Hindu mythology and the center of the pantheon Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. The two great events which take place here are the Kumbh Mela which happens once in 12 years and Ardh Kumbha which happens once in six years. Haridwar has also been a great source for ayurvedic medicines and herbal remedies and is also well known for its unique Gurukul School of traditional education. All this makes it a city of unique charm and flavour.
The ancient capital city of Gwalior tells a saga of warrior kings, poets, musicians and saints who contributed to make the place renowned throughout the world. The massive and invincible Gwalior fort overlooks the city. This fort has been witness to the merriments of peace and the choas of war. But it has withstood every attack and stands there in great esteem. Gwalior has preserved other momentoes of the past with great care that give it a unique and timeless appeal.
Can you forget the legendary freedom fighter, the Queen of Jhansi? Jhansi is a historic place but does not offer many monuments or sightseeing places. One can visit the fort which brings alive the valiant fight put up by the queen against the dominant English. Though she died fighting near Gwalior, she has made Janshi immemorial in Indian history.
